Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction Surgery)

Enlargement of the male breasts is common and can cause severe emotional and psychological issues. Removal of this excess tissue can be done with direct excision and/or liposuction. Results are dramatic and can be life-changing.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE?

  • You suffer from excess skin, fat or glandular tissue in the breasts.
  • You suffer from self-consciousness, due to the female appearance of your breasts.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

  • Usually done as an outpatient under general anesthesia.
  • Liposuction alone can be done for fatty breasts, suctioning out the fat in the breasts.
  • If true glandular tissue is present, an incision is made around the lower half of the nipple and the tissue is removed. A drain is left in place for two to three days.
  • Usually a combination of the above two is done.

RECUPERATION AND HEALING

  • A compression garment is used for ten to fourteen days.
  • Gradual resumption of normal activity occurs after about one week. Heavy lifting will have to wait for about three weeks.
  • Pain is easily controlled with oral medications
